Leaving your home and familiar surroundings can be unsettling. We work extremely hard to make this important transition as easy as possible. We pride ourselves on creating a safe, comfortable, home-like environment for our residents. Our greatest asset is our trained, dedicated and helpful staff, many of whom have been with us since our building was built. Every staff member knows each of our residents, their needs and, in many cases, becomes an extension of their own families. We attribute our low staff turnover rate to the fact that our staff loves working here and with older adults. Staff members are expected to treat our residents the way you would treat your own parents: with respect, dignity and compassion.
We offer the safety and security of around the clock support and access to care. Day or night, help is only a phone call away. Upon walking into our beautiful residence, the first thing you will notice is our Concierge Desk, which is staffed twenty-four hours a day. Our lobby is the perfect place to meet when heading out to explore New York City. For those wishing to stay closer to home, there are many wonderful gathering spaces throughout our building, such as the attractive solariums on our upper floors and our garden terrace. Our well-stocked library is an ideal place to relax, browse books and even discuss current events with new friends.
Our residence feels much like a hotel – not a health care facility. Care is present, attentive and accessible but almost invisible. Personalized care plans are developed to meet your needs while still giving you the independence you desire. We believe that older adults should be empowered and remain in control of their lives.
The Carnegie East House community is made up of men and women from all walks of life. Our activities are an integral part of our lifestyle and designed to appeal to everyone. The goal is to provide meaningful opportunities for our residents to remain active: learning and exploring fascinating new topics, exercising with various instructors and intents, writing and performing original musicals, laughing and having fun with others who share their interests and so much more. In short – to live life to the fullest.
One important fact differentiates us from other senior residences you may be considering: we are a nonprofit organization, and all about helping and empowering people.
